Haizhen Wang - One to Watch

So surely the surname 'Wang' must mean something along the lines of amazing fashion designer; Haizhen Wang is no exception to this. The Chinese born designer graduated CSM with an MA in Womenswear Fashion and has since created his own womenswear line (2010) and was named winner of the Fashion Fringe Prize by Christopher Bailey last year.
Wang's contemporary London based label was launched in 2010 but this is the first time he will be showcasing at fashion week in his own solo show. His first successful collection was his Spring/Summer 2013 collection. The collection was the epitome of masculine femininity with masculine tailored jackets being the standout pieces amongst the bold design and impeccable precision and quality.

Some of my favourite pieces from his S/S 13 collection

Wang's inspiration comes from the culture that surrounds him; mostly inspired from references that come from art history, both British and foreign. His A/W 13 collection draws inspiration from architecture with Wang focusing on Gothic style buildings - the multi-faceted constructions, the lines and the negative space of architectural plans. Wang says that this inspired theme for his collection is very much like looking at the contrasts between masculine and feminine characteristics which is something that he wonderfully brings together in his designs.
Based on this, and his previous collection, I am looking forward to his show probably the most out of all the designers at London Fashion Week. Wang is definitely an upcoming, fresh new designer and is definitely someone to watch over the next 10 years in my opinion.

Haizhen Wang's A/W 13 collection will be streaming live on LFW's website on Tuesday 19th Feb at 6pm.
